Société is pleased to present Stone Standing in the Wind, Tu Hongtao's first solo exhibition in Germany, opening November 4, 2026.
Made after his move from Chengdu to Hong Kong, Tu's new paintings respond to the vertical density and visual saturation of his surroundings and register the changing state of mind of the city's inhabitants. His abstractions unfold across multiple spatial, temporal, and cultural dimensions. Yet speed enters these works less as an external condition than as the interior state such an environment produces: a sensation of floating and falling that comes with life in a hyper-networked world.
Tu Hongtao will present a solo exhibition with Galerie Gisela Capitain in Naples, opening April 10, 2027.

Tu Hongtao’s paintings approach landscape as feeling and memory rather than a specific place, superimposing a flood of impressions that disrupt linear space and suggest the collapse, or even disappearance, of traditional perspective. His dynamic abstractions filter fleeting encounters and emotional resonances into gestural forms that resist narrative closure, articulating an affective dimension of the “real” across multiple spatial, temporal, and cultural perspectives. His most recent works, made after his move from Chengdu to Hong Kong, channel the velocity of his surroundings, and the flows of capital and images that animate them, through a deeply personal vector.
Tu Hongtao (b. 1976, Chengdu, China) lives and works in Hong Kong. His forthcoming exhibition with Société in November 2026 marks the artist’s first solo presentation in Germany.
